by Anonymous Editor's Note: Please keep in mind the following article is a teacher writing from a student's perspective. Both the teacher and student worked together to produce this amazing article which includes the use of sarcasm (meaning - don’t take this literally). Don’t you just hate it when teachers return papers and you don’t know why you got points deducted? I am not going to name any names in this article, but there is one specific 8th grade ELA teacher that drives me crazy. He returned my paper the other day and I lost 5 points. Granted, the assignment was worth 200 points and I got an A. But that’s not the point. The point is that I lost points and I wasn’t sure why. That isn’t even the worst part. He couldn’t even subtract correctly! My paper said 190/200. I have had amazing math teachers at this school and learned how to properly subtract (and MUCH more). Maybe this guy could have benefited from being in a real classroom. I had to politely tell the teacher that my grade should have been 195/200. I suppose that is why he teaches ELA. by Illeana Flores As you know, JMS has their very own cross country team, with about 50 runners. The runners meet up every Tuesday and Thursday to practice, led by two amazing coaches, Mr. Guerrero and Ms. Candy. The cross country team has been to a total of two meets, where the 7th grade boys won 3rd place, in the second meet. by Victoria Verduzco What is the Golden Girls? Drugs are a chemical that changes how the human body works. If you have ever been sick you know one type of drug but that's ok because a doctor has prescribed that to you I'm talking about heroine , alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana. These are the most popular drugs that people do and don't think about what the cause and effect is. When I was young my grandma was a smoker and so she got cancer and eventually it killed her soon after she passed away in 2013. It was a sad day for all of us. Hopefully one day drugs will go extinct and then people wouldn't have to worry about their family passing on or getting really sick and then later passing on. So when you grow up don’t do drugs so you can have a great life and have a good job also make your parents proud of what you have achieved. by Donovan Ralls and Noah Ortuno What are bad habits? Bad habits are negative addictions or behaviors that are common in most people’s lives. Five bad habits most students have are procrastination, skipping breakfast, social media, staying up too late, and not paying attention. Procrastination is one of the most common bad habits of them all. Get the project or assignment done as soon as possible. Most students just go home, watch tv, go on their phones, eat, and a lot more. Once you get everything that you need to be done, you have time to do whatever you want. by Ranz Cruz Did you know there are two headed snakes in real life? They are a rare find. Two headed snakes are just like conjoined twins. Some say they are mutants. I say that’s just natural. They are really rare. They have two hearts. They still eat the same as normal snakes. People were looking at an x-Ray of it, they saw that the spine is merged together. Most of the time two headed snake can’t decide where they are going. They often can’t respond quickly when they are attacked. Did you know on the Caduceus Symbol there are two snakes on that too? What does it mean? The Caduceus symbol/Caduceus is an ancient Greek or Roman herald's wand, typically one with two serpents twined around it, carried by the messenger god Hermes or Mercury. by Nicole Albarran Did you know that the school system has not changed since 1868 unlike how other technology from the past has changed over the years? For example a car used to be carriages pulled by horses or donkeys, but over the years it has evolved into a car, which is run by gas, driven by humans and it now has glass windows and steel doors. However, a classroom from the past was a room with desks that are in nice and straight lines, the students had to raise their hands if they wanted to speak which is not so different from the classrooms of today as proven by the pictures.
by Illeana Flores and Natalie Barragan Bilingualism has many advantages as a student, and an adult. For example, many workplaces highly value bilingualism. Some of those jobs include journalism, tourism, court translators, social workers, immigration specialists, human resource specialists, investment bankers, and risk managers. There are many jobs where bilingualism is highly valued, those were only some. International offices in companies and corporations, make bilingualism a high priority. Communication in the workplace is very important and being bilingual can help you communicate with all your co-workers regardless of the language they speak. People who are bilingual can add it to their resume, and have a better chance of getting the job, even if another monolingual applicant is more qualified. But of course, you must be properly educated to be able to have more job opportunities. |
