Don’t you just hate it when teachers return papers and you don’t know why you got points deducted? I am not going to name any names in this article, but there is one specific 8th grade ELA teacher that drives me crazy. He returned my paper the other day and I lost 5 points. Granted, the assignment was worth 200 points and I got an A. But that’s not the point. The point is that I lost points and I wasn’t sure why. That isn’t even the worst part. He couldn’t even subtract correctly! My paper said 190/200. I have had amazing math teachers at this school and learned how to properly subtract (and MUCH more). Maybe this guy could have benefited from being in a real classroom. I had to politely tell the teacher that my grade should have been 195/200. I suppose that is why he teaches ELA.
If he is incapable of properly grading my assignment, then he surely must go. I also have it on good authority that he is not too computer savvy. I’m pretty sure he barely knows how to upload a Google doc for students to access on Haiku. At least he has his students to help him to turn on his computer (he’s almost figured that one out!).
As you can clearly see, I hate it when teachers do not grade properly, cannot do basic math, and have outlived their time as viable teachers. I’m just glad that he will remain anonymous so no one will know which 8th grade male ELA teacher I am writing about!
