By Karina Paro On December 6th I went to the Winter Wonderland dance. It was a wonderful and fun experience. I saw a bunch of people I knew there, and even some teachers! I don’t usually like to “put myself out there” but my friends pulled me out to the dance floor, and it wasn’t that bad. The food was good and so was the music. The DJ tried to get everyone excited and participate in dances and activities. It was a great way to get my mind off of my worries and stress. I bonded with some new people as well. The music was loud and the room smelt like popcorn and hot chocolate. People were either wearing nice fancy clothes, or their everyday school clothes. There weren't a whole lot of people, but there were enough for a great time. If you went I hope you had a great time, and if you didn’t go, I hope you get to go next time.

Congratulations to all students and teachers for having the best decorated doors this winter!

We had our first 2018 Sports Fest event here at JMS. There were many different jumpers and clubs were selling food like the all time favorite Kona Ice and Dippin Dots. Teachers were there and helped out so that no panther would get hurt on this amazing day. The jumpers were so much fun. One of the jumpers was an obstacle course and it was fun to race your friend. Something that added an extra pop of fun was having music in the background while everyone was having a good time. As I saw some people getting Kona Ice and Dippin Dots I asked Samantha Villarreal what she thought about this event and she said, “I like the jumpers and how there's food!¨. Someone else told me, “I liked how there was so much excitement!” As you can see this year's sports fest was a blast! Go Panther Pride Day and thank you to all the teachers who helped make this day a success.
By Karina Paro Librarian, Ms. Veihmann has received Employee of the Year award. She is very helpful, responsible, kind, and hardworking. Ms. Veihmann keeps track of hundreds of books a day. She also provides students with the textbooks they need. When students need help with computer issues, she always knows what to do. Ms. Veihmann is a great role model. No matter what the problem is, she can fix it. If you’re trying to a find a certain book or author, she always stops what she’s doing to help you. Ms. Veihmann also runs a school book club where anyone is welcome. We shouldn’t only recognize her this week, we should always recognize her. Thank you Ms. Veihmann for being the amazing person you are! By Nicole Albarran Did you know, that our Social Studies teacher Mr. Gomez will be recognized on December 6th at the RCOE Conference Center for being the 2018 Educator of Excellence? Well he is, and here are some interesting facts about him, he attended Stone Avenue, Mission Middle School and Patriot High School. In addition he realized that he wanted to be a teacher when he was in high school, he wanted to teach Social Studies because it was his favorite subject. Additionally he was in Varsity Soccer and in AVID during high school. Mr. Gomez has two kids and a third one is coming his way. To add he was born in Orange County and his favorite food is Panda Express! Lastly, he is also a dual immersion teacher. If you see him on your way to class make sure to congratulate him on this amazing award. By Nicole Albarran and Illeana Flores As you may know, the annual Jurupa Unified School District Holiday Food Drive is being held from November 26 through December 12, 2018. This drive will provide food, toys and clothes to families in the community! Many people in the community do not have as much as we do, and would be very happy if they received some food, toys, and clothing for the holidays. Imagine being a kid who is in need. Before the holidays, you receive some food and clothing, you even receive some toys! I bet you would feel blessed and would be very grateful for the items you just received. Make someone's holidays better, by donating some items. by Anonymous Editor's Note: Please keep in mind the following article is a teacher writing from a student's perspective. Both the teacher and student worked together to produce this amazing article which includes the use of sarcasm (meaning - don’t take this literally). Don’t you just hate it when teachers return papers and you don’t know why you got points deducted? I am not going to name any names in this article, but there is one specific 8th grade ELA teacher that drives me crazy. He returned my paper the other day and I lost 5 points. Granted, the assignment was worth 200 points and I got an A. But that’s not the point. The point is that I lost points and I wasn’t sure why. That isn’t even the worst part. He couldn’t even subtract correctly! My paper said 190/200. I have had amazing math teachers at this school and learned how to properly subtract (and MUCH more). Maybe this guy could have benefited from being in a real classroom. I had to politely tell the teacher that my grade should have been 195/200. I suppose that is why he teaches ELA. |
